Every couple of years during the harsh winter months, I experience something called 'perioral dermatitis'. This condition is basically where my skin breaks out in dry, rash-like, itchy splotches around my nose and mouth area. The real kicker of this condition is that it doesn't go away over night...no, it lasts up to three months or longer.
Anyways, when I had my first break out this year, I didn't know what it was. I started treating it like dry skin and an acne break out. WRONG. Everything I was doing was only making it worse. The picture I have posted here was the day I thought my face was going to look like this forever. So, I started doing research, asked around to some friends, and turns out a friend of a friend said, "hey, that looks like perioral dermatitis!". I thought, GREAT. But what I didn't know was how to treat it. So here is where I found the holy grail product that we sell that has worked to clear up my dermatitis fairly quickly.
Don't be fooled by this updated picture from this past tuesday! I may have blush and mascara on, but I haven't been able to wear foundation in quite some time! I never really wore more than what I listed above, but sometimes when your face breaks out our natural instinct is to want to cover it! The key with this type of dermatitis, you cannot smother it. You have to use as little of products as possible, as gentle products as possible, and you have to let it AIR OUT! At first, I was horrified. I didn't want to limit my products I was using, but if I wanted to get past this, I had to.
I started using our Skin Glo Serum. This serum contains vitamin E, rose water, rose-hip oil, and aloe vera. Simple. Natural. I started using it twice a day along with our Rejuvenating Eye Cream with Lavender & Green Tea and our New Age moisturizer, lightly. I also stopped washing my face in the morning and only started washing with a splash of water. I would cleanse in the evening with our Clear Complexion Face Wash and then do the same skin care routine. I did find a mineral sunscreen that is tinted that I use a few times a week, but other than that, I limited what I used and when. I still have some small bumps that are fading, but overall, my skin is on the journey upward and I can't believe it has everything to do with our products that we sell here at HSEN! What I did learn through the process, using too many heavy oils makes the dermatitis worse, as does exfoliation. I KNOW - we love exfoliating those one or two times a week, but it will seriously make it worse.
To talk about the products we use in our Skin Glo Serum, the rose ingredients contain numerous anti-inflammatory properties that are gentle on the skin, help to calm the inflamed areas and moisturize them, because as we talked about, this rash is highly dry and itchy. Aloe Vera is a life saver because it's a gentle but highly moisturizing natural remedy that keeps the patches moisturized all day long. All of these ingredients together also increase your skin's elasticity and suppleness, giving it a beautiful and soft glow.
So, for those of you ladies who also may be suffering from something like this, don't worry, there is hope! If you are interested in our serum, you can find it under the Clear Complexion Line on our website! As we state at HSEN, our goal is to always be H.O.T. with you - welcome to my transparent life as a woman who believes that natural is the only way to go!
